If you have an iPod mini, you MUST have the Altec Lansing inMotion IMmini! The iPod mini is great in itself, of course. As described in my companion review, you can load it up with 1,000 of your favorite tunes, and with the ease of carrying a cell phone, you can take it with you everywhere you go and listen via headphones. However, when I am in my apartment, doing things around the house, or entertaining guests, I want to play songs so everyone can hear. Enter the Altec Lansing inMotion IMmini.
This product is designed specifically for use with the iPod mini, so you can broadcast all those favorite tunes that you have taken the time to download. And weighing only 10 ounces at 7 x 1 x 4.4 inches, it has top-notch sound quality. For someone like me who lives in small quarters, this is extremely valuable, since I cannot have a full-sized sound system. This is also a huge benefit for people who want portability. It takes up minimal space in suitcases, briefcases, backpacks or other bags.
It can be plugged in with the provided AC adapter or run on four AA batteries. On batteries it will run for 24 continuous hours. In addition, it shuts down automatically when it is not in use, in order to preserve any stored energy.
It is also quite sleek looking, in a white plastic housing with silver metallic accents. Your iPod mini gets displayed in the front on a dock that pops out of the casing, so the color of your mini will accent the white unit. There is a rear support that also pops out to prop the unit up at a perfect angle. On the top is a small power switch with an LED light and a volume adjustment slider. There is also a snap-on matching plastic panel that covers the entire front of the unit to protect the speakers when you travel.
The amazing sound quality comes from four neodymium micro drivers enclosed by perforated aluminum. It also has a 4-watt digital amplifier which powers the micro drivers, and the Altec Lansing MaxxBass technology to create quality bass sound without a subwoofer. There is a slight hissing sound when the volume is turned up all the way, but that is to be expected considering the small size of the unit.
Lastly, this product enables you to hook up to any other audio device through its input cable. With your iPod mini in the docking station, you can then hook the inMotion up to a CD player, MP3 player, laptop, or other product and listen via that device.
Who could ask for a better compliment to the iPod mini?
