TITLE: Director of technology
COMPANY: Industrial Color Inc., New York
NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES: 75 total; 15 in IT at offices in New York, Miami and Los Angeles
INDUSTRY SECTOR: Digital processing and production
WHAT DOES INDUSTRIAL COLOR DO?: We offer several services to customers like Tommy Hilfiger, including doing photo shoots, photo editing and digital asset management.
WHAT'S YOUR TOP IT CHALLENGE?: We do five to 10 photo shoots a day, and each shoot yields about 1,500 photos. Each photo can be up to 80 megs. It's a massive amount of data that we keep forever. So it has to be managed.
BEST CIO DECISION: Changing our infrastructure layout and eliminating single runs from each desktop back to the data center and using zone runs, at one-tenth the cost.
BEST TECHNOLOGY DECISION: Changing our ISP. Now we've got a carrier at one-quarter the cost.
IF YOU WEREN'T A CIO, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?: In real estate. I've always wanted to be the next Donald Trump.
WHY YOU WENT INTO TECHNOLOGY: I was a nerd as a kid. I used to read the encyclopedia and maps.
BEST PERSONALITY TRAIT: I'm a people person -- a super-plus in this industry. It's not a corporate, stuffy environment.
WORST PERSONALITY TRAIT: Once I become impassioned about something, it consumes me.
