Code Green Networks Inc. founder and CEO Sreekanth Ravi and his brother, CTO Sudhakar Ravi, also launched SonicWall Inc. and grew that company an installed base of more than 500,000 security appliances. Now the duo is focusing its energies on small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with a Code Green anti-data leakage product priced for SMB execs who face large-scale data protection challenges. "We meet most of our clients after they have discovered they have a problem," says Sreekanth. His brother developed Code Green's secret sauce, a patented technology called Deep Content Fingerprinting, which is embedded in its Content Inspection Appliance.

The technology prevents leaks of internal memos, customer lists, contracts, computer-aided drawings, product plans and more by scanning the documents (that's all documents in all languages -- including non-Roman scripts -- at all possible leakage points, they say). A simple way to think about the technology is that the Content Inspection engine can compare transmitted data with the RedList (content that should not be transmitted) and GreenList (content that has been approved for transmission).

The newest incarnation for SMBs, the CI-1500, comes with predefined policy templates and trend reports, incident management and audit trail capabilities, tiered pricing and a promise to get the software up and running in a day or less. By automating internal controls and closing information leakage points, the Ravis say the technology addresses three areas of risk for CIOs at SMBs: reputation, compliance and operations.

As for any sibling rivalry, Sreekanth does more than strut around in suits; he holds a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. We'll give you one guess as to where his brother graduated from: the same place, of course -- only Sudhakar graduated with a bachelor of science in computer engineering.
