Cisco offers SMBs IP phone package
Cisco Systems Inc., based in San Jose, Calif., this week rolled out its Business Communications Solution, which targets SMBs by packaging phones, routers and switches together to enable low-cost Internet telephony.
The services and pricing of the Business Communications Solution are aimed at companies with 20 to 250 employees.
As part of the offering, Cisco also announced the new SMB-class Cisco Catalyst Express 500 Series switching family, new IPC applications and more XML-enabled IP phones. The Cisco SMB Support Assistant also gives SMBs access to technical experts and other support.
Pricing for the Catalyst Express 500 switch series starts at $795. The new IP phones start at $395 for the 7941G model. Cisco Unity voice mail service starts at $1,600 for 25 mailboxes. Financing from Cisco Capital is available.

Lenovo releases two notebook PCs for mobile SMB users
Lenovo Group Ltd., based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., unveiled this week two notebook computers designed for mobile SMB workers.
The ThinkPad Z60m offers a 15.4-inch display for better viewing. The company claims the ThinkPad Z60t, at 1.1 inches thick and 4.2 pounds, is the thinnest and lightest 14-inch notebook PC available.
Both notebooks include wireless broadband access through Verizon Wireless' Evolution-Data Optimized wireless wide area network antenna, which the company said features connection rates in the U.S. of average speeds between 400-700k bps with 2.0M bps burst. A roll cage chassis in both notebooks is designed to reduce the shock of dropping the PC by up to 30%.
The 14-inch ThinkPad Z60t is now available through resellers and through Lenovo's Web site. Prices for the ThinkPad Z60t start at $1,099. The 15.4-inch ThinkPad Z60m will be available Oct. 11, with prices starting at $799.

TelCove touts three SMB business continuity/disaster recovery services
TelCove, a telecommunications services provider based in Canonsburg, Penn., launched three new business continuity storage services for SMBs.
TelCove's new E-Vaulting service, Remote Shared Storage service and IP Storage Transport service are intended to build on business continuity and disaster recovery offerings introduced by TelCove earlier this year.
These services provide companies with several options to back up data to a remote storage facility or expand storage area networks over TelCove's network.
These services can be purchased individually or packaged together. Pricing for the services start at $2,000 per month for the Remote Shared Storage service; $2,500 per month for its E-Vaulting service; and $6,000 per month for its IP Storage Transport service.
New eBridge product offers Salesforce.com customers back-end accounting application integration
eBridge Software Inc., a provider of business data integration software for SMBs based in Burlington, Ontario, will offer back-end accounting application integration software for Salesforce.com customers, starting Oct. 1.
Besides the standard license model eBridge already supports for Salesforce.com customers, its new OnDemand product will support more than 37 accounting applications, like QuickBooks, Peachtree, Great Plains and more.
Entry-level accounting packages start at $19.99 per user per month, cost $29.99 per user per month for its mid-level packages and $29.99 per user per month for its high-level packages.

Partnership offers SMBs easy access to strong antivirus protection
Metavize Inc., a gateway security provider based in San Mateo, Calif., announced this week a partnership intended to make enterprise-class antivirus software available to SMBs.
The company has teamed up with Global Hauri to integrate its ViRobot technology into Metavize's EdgeGuard Gateway Security Platform. This makes ViRobot technology available for installation into Metavize appliances via download. An annual subscription to Global Hauri's antivirus software for EdgeGuard appliance owners is $299 for up to 200 users.
Metavize's EdgeGuard appliance is available through resellers within the U.S. for $2,995, plus a $995 annual maintenance and update subscription.
iRadeon offers on-demand open source CRM
The iRadeon Group Inc., a provider of on-demand services for open source business software in Roseville, Calif., announced this week support for its latest CRM software.
iRadeon said its Sugar Open Source CRM version 3.5 offers SMBs an open source alternative to proprietary software from vendors like Salesforce.com. The company said its on-demand services offer near real-time deployment, user-friendly account management, and security, management and support.
iRadeon's on-demand services are available now, with plans starting at $75 per month for 10 users.

Computer Associates announces protection package for Windows servers
Computer Associates International, Inc., based in Islandia, N.Y., has announced a protection suite for midmarket users of Microsoft products.
CA's Business Protection Suite for Midsize Business for Windows is designed to complement Microsoft's recently-announced Windows Server System for Midsize Business by bundling antivirus, anti-spyware, data backup and restoration and desktop migration technologies. The midsize protection suites will cost $6,995 to support 50 users.
The Business Protection Suite for Midsize Business for Windows will go on sale in mid-October through authorized CA resellers. It will be available in 10 languages. Add-on packs will be available in increments of five, 10 and 20-user licenses.

New network security appliance for SMBs
SonicWALL Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of network security, mobility, and productivity products, has announced the release of its TotalSecure security appliance.
The TotalSecure package is designed to protect against viruses, spyware, worms and Trojans by offering a hardware firewall, plus a one year subscription to SonicWALL's Gateway antivirus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention and content filtering services, product updates, and support.
TotalSecure is available in five wired or wireless packages. Prices for SonicWALL's TotalSecure products start at $540 for offices with up to 10 employees.
SMB security appliance one of three new products from McAfee
McAfee Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based provider of computer security products, announced this week the release of a new security appliance targeting SMBs.
McAfee's Secure Internet Gateway (SIG) for small-to-medium-sized businesses is one of three new security appliances in the company's Secure Content Management (SCM) family, which bundles together protection against spyware, inappropriate Web content, phishing, spam, viruses, worms and Trojans. The appliances are designed for easy installation and to provide a single protection management point.
The McAfee SCM family of appliances is now available worldwide through McAfee SecurityAlliance partners.

Automated firewall management tool for SMBs
Solsoft Inc., a network security policy management software maker based in Mountain View, Calif., announced this week a new firewall management product.
Solsoft's Firewall Manager is intended for a single user of a security management platform and offers automated design, deployment, and documentation of security policies for small networks handling the same security challenges as larger companies. The product supports all major security device vendors.

Layton Technology releases Internet monitoring software for SMBs
Layton Technology Inc., a Tampa, Fla.-based developer of auditing and helpdesk software, has released ObsurferPro Internet monitoring and reporting software for SMBs.
Designed for easy use and low prices, ObsurferPro is intended to provide IT and network administrators with a record of all networked PC and Internet activity, with "no costly bells-n-whistles," according to a company release.
The price for ObsurferPro starts at $295 for 50 PCs, which includes 60 days of e-mail, phone support and any updates. Volume discounts are also available. ObsurferPro is available directly from Layton Technology or its network of authorized distribution partners.

Gateway releases PC line targeting SMBs
Irvine, Calif.-based Gateway Inc. has released its S-Series line of desktop and notebook PCs, designed specifically for SMBs.
The S-Series offers durability, easy maintenance, affordable prices and a wide range of configurations aimed at meeting the needs of SMBs.
The two S-Series desktop PC prices are $449 and $599, and the two notebook PC prices are $849 and $1,349.

Spectra Logic provides SMB data protection and backup through new tape library
Boulder, Colo.-based Spectra Logic Corp. has released a tape library designed to provide affordable and scalable data protection and backup for SMBs or remote offices.
The Spectra S50 tape library has a capacity of up to 40 terabytes in 7 inches. Performance scales up to 576 GB/hr. The S50 is designed to grow along with the amount of data by expanding to hold up to 50 LTO tape cartridges and supporting multiple drives so performance can scale. The library can backup data to write-once read-many tape cartridges and is compatible with all major backup applications and operating systems. Customers can connect their servers directly to the S50 with either Fibre Channel or SCSI.

HP offers entry-level enterprise management software
Palo Alto, Calif.-based Hewlett-Packard Co. has launched entry-level enterprise management software designed and priced for SMBs.
HP OpenView Client Configuration Manager, based on Radia technology, offers integrated inventory collection, software distribution, patch management and other capabilities to customers on a tight budget.
The software can be scaled and upgraded to other products in HP's OpenView Configuration Management portfolio as SMBs grow.
The estimated starting price for HP's OpenView Client Configuration Manager is $25 per seat license, including one-year free standard telephone support and product updates. The product is expected to be available through HP and OpenView channel partners in October.

Acer adds another SMB notebook PC
Acer America Corp., based in San Jose, Calif., has added the TravelMate 4020 to its line of TravelMate notebook PCs.
Designed for SMBs and small offices, the 4020 seeks to balance performance and price. The notebook PC features Intel Centrino mobile technology with PCI Express, in a light, thin frame intended for easy mobility.
The TravelMate 4020 is available through Acer authorized resellers throughout North America. Pricing starts around $899.

ChannelAdvisor rolls out SMB backend automator
ChannelAdvisor Corp., a Research Triangle Park, N.C., provider of channel management software, has rolled out a new product intended to automate and streamline backend processes for SMB customers.
ChannelAdvisor's Operations Center software works in real time with ChannelAdvisor's Web-based, self-service Merchant software platform to streamline shipping, logistics, invoicing, barcode printing and other back-end processes.
Pricing for ChannelAdvisor's Operations Center includes a setup fee ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 and a per-order charge of $.10/order.

Culver City, Calif.-based Fonality Inc. has signed more than 500 reseller partners in 45 countries to PBXtra, an IP-PBX phone.

McAfee adds SMB e-mail protection service
McAfee Inc., based in Santa Clara, Calif., this week launched its Secure Messaging Service for Small Businesses. Based on Postini Inc.'s Perimeter Manager, the hosted Secure Messaging Service provides e-mail security and allows end users to manage their own filtering profiles and quarantine folders online. The service is designed to filter spam, viruses and inappropriate content before it reaches client networks. No hardware or software needs to be purchased, installed or managed.
McAfee Secure Messaging Services are now available worldwide from McAfee Inc.
The one-year, per mailbox pricing for 11-25 licenses begins at $36.44 per license.
Symantec rolls out three versions of its security appliance for the midmarket
Cupertino, Calif.-based Symantec Corp. has launched its Gateway Security 5600 Series, a network security appliance. The 5600 Series offers three different models -- the 5620, 5640 and 5660 -- all targeted at medium-sized enterprises, depending on the number of licenses and types of features they require. All three models provide features that include antispam, antivirus, VPN, full-inspection firewall, intrusion prevention, intrusion detection and content filtering technologies. These features can be controlled through a single management system.

QCD Microsystems integrates Linux servers with Windows interface
New York City-based QCD Microsystems Inc. has released its InterStructures Linux Administration platform to integrate Linux open source servers with a Windows interface. The platform is intended to enable users to administer Linux and Windows servers simultaneously without the need for Linux or Unix skills. The SMB suite is priced at $450 for five servers.
Oracle and Sun offer bundled infrastructure packs for SMBs
Sun Microsystems Inc. and Oracle Corp. last week announced the joint launch of Database Packs intended to offer SMBs high performance by combining Oracle databases and Sun servers in a single package. The packs bundle Oracle's Database 10g with Sun's StorEdge 3310 arrays and Sun Fire x64 servers. The packs are powered by AMD Opteron processors and run either the Solaris 10 operating system or standard Linux distribution operating systems. The Database Packs will be available from qualified Sun/Oracle joint resellers.

Seattle-based Singlestep Technologies Corp. unveiled Singlestep Unity 2.5 integration software. Unity 2.5's targets SMBs by offering low-cost modular components to help integrate, automate and monitor key services. Singlestep seeks to give SMBs a better view of business processes by overlaying existing networking management systems with Unity 2.5, without disrupting operations.

RapidFax.com offers SMBs an online fax service
RapidFax.com, an e-mail based fax service aimed at the small- and home-office market, launched this month.
A service offered by Piscataway, N.J.-based EasyLink Services Corp., RapidFax.com offers online signup, instant activation, credit card billing, an online interface and integration with Microsoft Office 2003. The service uses an existing e-mail account and broadband connection to send faxes, as a way to replace separate fax lines. The service costs $9.95 per month or an annual fee of $109.45.

Microsoft Corp. is predicting a fall release of its Small Business Accounting 2006 software. The software is intended to manage the finances of companies with up to 25 employees and has a design similar to other Office products. A beta trial of the product has been available since November. The price is expected to be about $200 and will be available only in the U.S.
Small Business Accounting 2006 will also be bundled into Microsoft Office Small Business Management Edition 2006, which includes Word, Excel, Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Update.

Ingenica's new printer targets SMBs
Toronto, Ont.-based Ingenica Ltd. announced this week the release of its UniPrint Terminal Server Edition printing software. The company says the $845 application is designed and priced to offer enterprise-level printing performance to SMBs working within a Microsoft Corp. terminal server environment. The application converts print requests into PDF format to streamline the process.
A trial version of UniPrint Terminal Server Edition can be downloaded from www.uniprint.net, or purchased through one of Ingenica's resellers.

"Best SMB Channel Partner" WatchGuard joins with Citrix
Seattle, Wash.-based WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. has partnered with Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Citrix Systems, Inc., to release a new network security appliance aimed at SMBs. The WatchGuard Firebox SSL Core VPN Gateway with Citrix Secure Access offers SMBs a secure way for up to 205 remote workers to connect to core applications through the Internet. Pricing starts at $2,790.
The two companies expect to coordinate marketing and sales activities and develop additional SSL VPN products for SMB customers.
Also, WatchGuard was named last week as the "Best SMB Channel Partner" by Bethesda, Maryland-based ASCII Group, an independent computer reseller group with more than 2,000 members in North America.

IBM launches new SMB storage offerings
IBM launched this week several new storage offerings aimed at the SMB market.
The new products include an entry-level storage disk product, the result of IBM's recent alliance with Network Appliance. The IBM TotalStorage N3700 is intended to give SMBs with fewer than 1,000 employees a network-attached storage product that incorporates iSCSI technology and scales up to 16 terabytes (TB).
IBM is pitching TotalStorage DR550 Express as a way to provide non-erasable and non-rewriteable storage management. The device scales from one to 56 TB and offers encryption and data replication features. A third release is the SAN Starter Kit, designed to help small business customers consolidate their storage into a single place, while remaining easily accessible.
The IBM TotalStorage N3700 will be available in late August, with prices starting at $50,000. The DR550 is available now, with prices starting around $45,000. The SAN Starter Kit is also available now and is priced at $16,376.
Support and financing options are available from IBM for all products.
Keep track of documents with in-house Google
Companies having trouble finding or keeping track of their documents can take a page from the playbook of the best. Mountain View, Calif.-based Google Inc. has released the Google Mini search appliance.
The Google Mini software is intended to help SMBs make the most of their digital documents. The Mini can index and search up to 100,000 documents -- double the number available when the product first launched in January. The Mini works with more than 220 different file formats, including HTML, .pdf and Microsoft Office.
The Mini costs $2,995, including a year of support and hardware replacement coverage. Those who need to search more than 100,000 documents can consider the Google Search Appliance, which can index 500,000 or more documents. The Search Appliance costs $30,000.
Wi-Fi security offering for SMBs
Mountain View, Calif.-based AirTight Networks has unveiled a new Wi-Fi IPS product, SpectraGuard Sentry, designed to offer SMBs enterprise-level Wi-Fi protection at an affordable price.
SpectraGuard Sentry monitors the 2.4 and 5 GHz airwave bands to protect against Wi-Fi threats like rogue access points, client mis-associations and ad hoc connections. SpectraGuard Sentry is compatible with all Wi-Fi infrastructure, firewalls and VPNs, and works with access points from any vendor. A single SpectraGuard Sentry will cover mostly small offices, according to AirTight. SpectraGuard Sentry is available now and costs $595.
Yahoo releases beta of SMB publisher
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo Inc. will extend its Yahoo Publisher Network in the U.S. to Web sites for SMBs. The SMB Publisher rollout will begin as an invitation-only beta.
Yahoo Publisher Network allows webmasters to add Yahoo advertising products and other Yahoo content and products to their sites. The new Publisher Network release will offer SMBs capabilities that were previously available to larger, brand-name companies.
The first advertising product Yahoo will offer through the beta is its Content Match contextual listings. Content Match enables publishers to place Yahoo's contextually relevant listings on their sites and receive a share of the revenue generated by those listings.

New SMB cable connectors
Ledgewood, N.J.-based Bomar Interconnect Products Inc., a manufacturer and designer of electronic connectors, has added an SMB interconnect to its line of Eliminator coaxial series.
The Eliminator series is designed to eliminate the need for extra cable assemblies and printed circuit board connectors by simply connecting an Eliminator directly to an electronic device, and dropping it onto the PCB.
Pricing for Bomar's SMB Eliminator starts at $1.38 each in quantities of 1,000. Delivery is from stock to 12 weeks.

IBM offers SMB-specific iSeries edition
IBM announced the upcoming release of an SMB-specific iSeries server, the i520 Solutions Edition.
The i520 Solutions Edition is a lower priced version of IBM's midrange system, the i550 Solutions Edition, paired with software from nearly a dozen independent software vendors (ISVs). It is specifically priced to target companies with 50 or fewer users.
Customized software for the i520 Solutions Edition will become available July 22 from ISVs such as Agilysis Inc. and Clear Technologies Inc.
IBM is also introducing a new on-demand pricing program for some iSeries systems, to offer SMBs greater payment flexibility. Customers now can pay for i5/OS licensing per processor and are required to buy only one i5/OS license.
Customers will also be able to order some software upgrades online.
Cabinet NG updates its SMB accounting document management software
Athens, Ala.-based Cabinet NG Inc. released CNG-Books 2.5, the latest version of its document management software for Intuit QuickBooks 2005.
CNG-Books 2.5 is designed to allow SMBs to file and integrate business documents with QuickBooks records and streamline their accounting processes. The software can be used with or without the company's more comprehensive document management product, CNG 5.0.
CNG-Books prices are based on the number of users: $495 for a single user; $995 for five users; and $1,995 for 10 users.
Partnership brings Fortune 1,000 tax services to SMBs
Salem, Mass.-based Taxware LP, a self-described Fortune 1,000 tax and compliance company, announced a partnership with Avalara, which provides Web-based, automated tax services for the SMB market.
Under the partnership, Taxware, a division of First Data Corp., will offer its services to SMBs through Avalara's online channel. Also, Avalara customers will gain access to some of Taxware's more advanced capabilities, such as its comprehensive taxability matrix. Avalara said it will co-deploy and resell Taxware products as part of the agreement.
Catenate offers SMBs affordable market research
Manlius, N.Y.-based Catenate LLC rolled out a Web application designed to offer SMBs affordable market research information.
Catenate's Catosphere Web application offers market research and customer demographic information that includes U.S. census data, current year estimates and five-year projections, traffic counts, shopping centers, market potential, consumer expenditures and lifestyle segmentation.
Catosphere said it can provide its report in either .pdf or Excel format, and offer customized searches in less than five minutes.
Reports can be purchased through subscriptions or by request. Subscriptions range from $995 to $2,500 for different levels of access, while specific requests start at just under $100 per report.
Lasso Logic unveils continuous data protection appliance for SMBs
San Francisco-based Lasso Logic unveiled a continuous data protection appliance for the SMB market this week.
The disk-based Lasso CDP is an alternative to tape-based backup systems. It includes continuous data backup, local and off-site backup, business application support, instant recovery and remote administration. The product is also designed to eliminate the need to manually transported data to remote locations.
Lasso CDP's suggested retail price is $2,199, however, a special product launch offer price of $1,499 will be available until Aug. 3. The price varies depending on the capacity, number of users and added functionality customers need.

Dell Inc. unveiled this week the PowerEdge SC430 server for SMBs, featuring Intel Corp.'s new dual-core processor technology.
The PowerEdge SC430 comes standard with Dell Server Assistant for PowerEdge SC, a management utility designed to make OS installation and troubleshooting quick and easy.
The dual-core technology featured in the PowerEdge SC430 combines two processing units into a single processor chip for increased performance, which allows the server to perform as an e-mail, file/print or shared Internet access server.
The Dell PowerEdge SC430 supports Windows Server 2003, Red Hat and SuSE Linux operating systems and is available worldwide. Pricing begins at $499.

Microsoft has rolled out its Windows Server System for SMBs, which bundles three core technologies at a discount price for companies with 25 to 400 PCs.
The Windows Server System combines Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft Operations Manager 2005.
The Windows Server System combination package is offered at about a 20% discount from individual license pricing to provide predictable licensing costs for SMBs with smaller IT staffs and budgets.

Hitachi Data Systems introduces midrange storage systems
Hitachi Data Systems this week launched a new line of midrange storage systems designed to offer SMBs enterprise-level functions in midmarket packaging and price.
The Hitachi TagmaStore adaptable modular storage and workgroup modular storage systems are intended to succeed the Hitachi Thunder 9500 V Series modular storage system.
Both TagmaStore storage lines offer functions such as logical cache partitioning and virtual storage ports with secure host storage domains to provide secure data access to business applications such as Microsoft Exchange, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management or databases.
Pricing starts just below $20,000 for the WMS 100 system.

Meeting Maker Inc. launches collaborative calendaring tool for Microsoft Outlook
Waltham, Mass.-based Meeting Maker Inc., a maker of time management software, unveiled this week Meeting Maker for Microsoft Outlook.
Meeting Maker for Microsoft Outlook offers users collaborative group scheduling functions that ordinarily requires an SMB to install a Microsoft Exchange server.
The software is available in English, French and German. Prices start at $949 for a 10-user license, with nonprofit and educational discounts available.

New Wi-Fi tool for SMBs has less than 10 access points
AdventNet Inc. this week released a small business edition of its wireless network management system, WiFi Manager 4.
WiFi Manager 4 offers all the same management, security and intrusion detection functions as Pleasanton, Calif.-based AdventNet's professional edition, but is limited to 10 access points. It supports vendors such as 3Com Corp., Avaya Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., Dell Inc. and Linksys.
The company also offers WiFi Manager editions that support 50, 100, 500 and unlimited access points.

Symbol Technologies offers bar code scanner for midsized retailers
Holtsville, N.Y.-based Symbol Technologies Inc. is offering a bar code scanner aimed at emerging markets and midsized retailers.
The new LS9203 scanner incorporates omni directional scanning, which eliminates the need to orient the bar code for faster and more accurate read rates. The LS9203 is designed to be compact, durable and affordable for SMBs.
The scanner's retail price is $293.

Microsoft previews new small-business CRM tool
Microsoft Corp. will preview the upcoming release of its long-awaited customer relationship management (CRM) software, Microsoft CRM 3.0, at its Worldwide Partner Conference 2005 in Minneapolis, Minn. and Tech Ed 2005 conference in Amsterdam, both happening this week.
The newest version of the software includes a Small Business Edition, which targets companies that use Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition. Microsoft said it plans to have the new version include a simple installation process and an easy migration path from Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.
A new subscription-based hosted version of the software will also be available. Microsoft says using the same code for the hosted and on-site versions means companies can switch from one to the other as their business needs change.
Microsoft CRM 3.0 will be available to customers with earlier versions of the software in late 2005 and available to new customers in early 2006. The product will be available 23 languages. Prices are slated to be announced closer to the release dates.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based sfaFinity Inc. announced this week the release of SFCRM – a sales, marketing and customer service management software product aimed at SMBs with up to 2,000 employees.
SFCRM is designed to be easy to install and operate through a standard Internet browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, rather than requiring client software for access.
The software is available through an upfront purchase of an in-house product or through a monthly subscription.
The SFCRM Standard five-user suite starts at $1,295, with additional seats available at $299. Subscriptions are available starting at $39 per month. Trial downloads are available.

Vestal, N.Y.-based dataBased Intelligence Inc. this month announced free onsite installation support from a company staff worker for any customer that cannot operate the company's dQuery software on the first attempt. The dQuery software can draw information from a range of different databases, from large programs such as Oracle to smaller ones such as FoxPro, which allows SMBs to pull information from their newest systems as well as legacy systems full of unused data. The data can be collected into a single spreadsheet and printed out or exported to Microsoft Excel to be put into chart form. The product is intended to provide a business intelligence tool that is simple to use and easy to install for non-technical staff.
The dQuery software is priced at $795 per license, with discounts available for bulk purchases.
New version of SMB staff management software from Taleo Corp.
Taleo Corp. this week released the latest version of its staff management software for SMBs looking to manage existing employees and recruit new talent.
Business Edition 6 from San Francisco, Calif.-based Taleo is intended to help SMBs manage and streamline their staff recruiting, hiring, development and deployment process by tracking job openings, candidates, career Web sites, personal contacts and accounts.
Pricing for the four versions of Taleo's Business Edition – personal, standard, plus and premium – starts at $995 per year per user for its personal edition.
A free 30-day trial is available online.
Switchvox offers additional VoIP features for SMBs
Switchvox, a provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone systems for SMBs, announced this week that it will offer additional features and support for its IP PBX phone system.
San Diego, Calif.-based Switchvox said adding support for the Inter-Asterisk exchange (IAX) protocol in addition to its existing support for the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), will offer customers more bandwidth savings and easier compatibility with other VoIP providers.
Built on open source software, Switchvox systems start at $995. The latest applications will be included in current systems.

Computer Associates releases five SMB data protection software suites
Computer Associates International Inc., of Islandia, N.Y., announced its Total Protection Suite for SMBs, which includes antivirus and antispyware technology, automated data backup and restore functions, and advanced system migration technology. Pricing is slated to range from $325 to $1,099 for a five-user license.
The five suites are the following:
CA Desktop Protection Suite, for protecting data on users' desktops and laptops.
CA Server Protection Suite, for protection of centrally stored and managed data.
CA Business Protection Suite, for protection of both server- and desktop-resident data.
CA Business Protection Suite for Microsoft Small Business Server Standard Edition, for SMBs using or planning to implement the standard edition of Microsoft's Small Business Server.

CyberGuard launches new desktop security appliance for SMBs
Network security vendor CyberGuard Corp. has launched a new desktop appliance to protect SMBs against external and internal threats.
CyberGuard SG580 manages threats through its firewall, intrusion detection, antivirus protection and threat containment features.
The appliance ships this month and costs $699. Antivirus protection will be available in the fall.
Trend Micro Inc. unveils three antispyware software sets
Internet security software company Trend Micro Inc., based in Tokyo, has unveiled three new antispyware software sets for the home, SMBs and the enterprise. Trend Micro acquired the antispyware technology in May from InterMute Inc.
Trend Micro's antispyware offerings include the following:
Trend Micro Anti-Spyware 3.0
A PC-centric offering designed for consumer and small office/home office environments, Trend Micro Anti-Spyware monitors the system for spyware. The latest version offers several improvements compared to earlier versions. Cost is $29.95 with renewal pricing at $14.95.
Trend Micro Anti-Spyware for Small and Medium Businesses 3.0
Trend Micro Anti-Spyware for Small and Medium Businesses offers automated features such as discovery of unprotected computers, silent installation and timely updates. Prices range from $20/seat at the five- to 25-user level, to $11/seat at the 501- to 1,000-user level.
Trend Micro Anti-Spyware Enterprise Edition 3.0
This edition provides greater administrative flexibility and reporting, as well as complementing other desktop security software. The Enterprise Edition 3.0 for companies with 1,001 user licenses or more is expected to be priced at $9 per user, with lower per user pricing at higher user counts.
McAfee expands its remote virus removal and online support chat
Santa Clara, Calif.-based McAfee Inc. will extend its remote virus detection and removal services, as well as online chat with support staff.
By expanding its relationship with Sento Corp., McAfee will offer its Remote Assistance support services to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The Remote Assistance option will be offered as a feature with McAfee's Virus Removal Service. The remote support service allows McAfee staff members to access customer's system with their permission to diagnose and repair security issues. In addition, McAfee engineers are able to suggest additional security measures. Remote Assistance is available as an optional feature within the premium voice and chat offerings.
Cast Iron Systems introduces latest version of Application Router 3000
Cast Iron Systems, a maker of application integration appliances, plans to announce next week its second generation integration appliance, the Application Router 3000.
Mountain View, Calif.-based Cast Iron Systems built the Application Router as an appliance that integrates systems by connecting, transforming and routing data and events from source to target systems.
The Application Router hardware is designed to eliminate multiple software programs and their accompanying compatibility concerns.
Also, the Application Router 3000 can be installed quickly and does not need manual intervention upon failure.
