This is definitely something you want to control. Just this week, the Motion Picture Association announced a new crackdown on individuals swapping movies illegally. The traditional approach to controlling P2P applications has been to try to block the ports used by file-swapping applications. The problem with that approach is that most P2P applications automatically search the range of ports until they find one that is open. The newest methods being used to monitor and control P2P traffic are tools that can either prioritize traffic or examine the contents of individual data packets to see what is being transferred and block it if necessary.
